Click on arrows above to navigate. The "26ers" began as teenaged graffiti artists and then went to art school. Many artists start this way. The lowest form of graffiti art is called "tagging," a practice that I abhor. Other forms of graffiti -- I am thinking of murals -- rival ancient Islamic design in beauty. Yet another form of graffiti is called "buffing." Buffing means covering over graffiti with a block of colour that is close to the colour of its wall. Some graffiti artists are also buffers, and that trend may be related to the 26ers turn toward a kind of formalist painting in their prefabs. -- Cliff Eyland.
